Ninho interweaves fiction and documentary to explore the bittersweet struggle of leaving home in search of a better future.
Mariana, a young Portuguese woman (from Mafra) recently arrived in Madrid, faces the loneliness of migration as her life in Portugal continues without her. Her routine becomes an attempt to adapt, but memories of home haunt her. In a symbolic act of rebuilding, Mariana decides to bake bread, the same bread she ate as a child, in an attempt to find balance between her past and present.
Interwoven with real-life accounts from Mafra residents who reflect on community and connection, the short film captures the universality of leaving the nest to pursue one's dreams.
