Should prostitution be criminalized? In 2021, Operation Ohio Knows arrested 161 people seeking to buy sex in the state–including an Elyria councilman–and 50 people trying to sell sex. In 2023, the same AG’s office executed Operation Buyer’s Remorse, with similar results. We traverse the public narratives created by these operations, interviewing people helped and hurt by them, and experts on sex work and human trafficking, in an attempt to understand the injustices behind sex work prosecution in the United States. We aim to uncover the ironies, inconsistencies, and injustices of criminalizing prostitution.
